Buffalo Bills running back Fred Jackson and Bills Wall of Famer and current CBS Football Analyst Steve Tasker were at the Bills Store in Orchard Park on December 14th to meet fans and sign copies of the BILLS FOOTBALL VAULT The First 50 Seasons.

The BILLS FOOTBALL VAULT The First 50 Seasons has vaulted to the top of many Bills fans most wished for Bills holiday gift, and the books have been flying off the shelves in the Buffalo area. The book has also been a top-selling item online for the Bills through their Bills Store.

Fans lined up in the Bills Store and were able to get their personal copy of the book signed along with any other football item signed by the guys. Tasker shared Pro Bowl and old practice stories with the fans and one fan had a great question that got everyone talking.

Jackson and Tasker were asked by a fan who would win a race between the two if they were both in their prime at the same time. Both were unwilling to commit as to who would win the race between them, but they relented. Jackson said Tasker would win a close one, and Tasker said, Jackson would win, but Id give him a race.

The book, written by renowned author Scott Pitoniak, is a unique detailed scrapbook of vintage photographs, artwork and memorabilia discovered in the Bills archives. Fans will find reproductions of old game programs, historic tickets, vintage bumper stickers and more within the books contents. Some of the replicas include a 1960 The Bills Are Back letter to fans, a 1960s style pennant, a 1980 Talking Proud card, a ticket to Super Bowl XXV and a Back The Bills bumper sticker.

The BILLS FOOTBALL VAULT encompasses the Bills first 50 seasons including the hiring of Head Coach Chan Gailey and General Manager Buddy Nix.

Rummaging through the Bills bountiful archives while researching this book was a true labor of love for this history buff, Pitoniak said. Thanks to the Bills and Whitman Publishing out of Atlanta, I believe weve come up with a book thats distinctive from every other book ever published about the team.

Some describe the book as a treasure and the perfect gift for any Bills fan, but the publisher describes the BILLS FOOTBALL VAULT best.

Imagine being given the key to a vault in a bank where you can touch everything inside, said Whitman Publishing. With Whitman Vault Books, we have taken this dream one step further by delivering to you the treasures of your favorite team inside of our ultimate history books.”

Every book in the Whitman Vault series takes you back to the very beginning of a schools football or basketball program through a narrative provided by an author with detailed knowledge of the program while accompanied by vintage photographs from extensive campus archives. But what makes this book different than any other ever produced is that we include replicas of old collectibles and memorabilia that you can touch and actually remove from the Vault. That is why each book weighs almost 5 pounds!

Bills Hall of Fame running back Thurman Thomas, Bills punter Brian Moorman, Bills Wall of Famer Booker Edgerson and author Scott Pitoniak kicked off the books arrival earlier in the year with a fan event in the summer, and Jackson and Tasker were the perfect complement to kick off the holidays for the BILLS FOOTBALL VAULT.

Pitoniak will be in Victor, NY at the Bills Store in Eastview Mall on Saturday from 6:00 p.m. 8:00 p.m. to sign copies of the BILLS FOOTBALL VAULT for fans in Rochester.

The book is available for interested fans through buffalobills.com or by visiting the Bills Store in Orchard Park or Victor, NY.

By Tyler Diedrich, Contributing Correspondent

Despite their 3-10 record, and playoff hopes long since extinguished, the Bills still believe they have a lot to play for in the last three games of the season, all against division rivals.

In one regard, the Bills see Sunday’s game at Miami as a chance to spoil the 7-6 Dolphins’ playoff hopes.

“Whenever you can’t make it to the playoffs, (you) have to play to spoil other people’s seasons,” safety Donte Whitner said. “I know it sounds bad, but not when they’re in your division. We have the feeling that if we can’t go to the playoffs, we don’t want them going to the playoffs.”

The Dolphins, currently ninth in the AFC, likely need to win out and get help in order to have a shot at the postseason.

After the Bills take their talents to South Beach this weekend, they host the 11-2 New England Patriots – who lead the AFC and have clinched a playoff berth – Dec. 26 before traveling to the Meadowlands to face the 9-4 New York Jets in the Jan. 2 season finale.

Tight end David Martin, cut by the Miami in the preseason after playing there since 2007, said it would be great to dash his former team’s playoff hopes, but the Bills are more concerned about themselves.

“The effect of us winning may spoil some people’s season,” Martin said. “But right now we’re just focused on winning and getting this team better.”

While the Bills look forward to being a potential spoiler, they hope they can be on the opposite end of the equation in the near future.

“I’m not worried about messing it up for them,” coach Chan Gailey said of the remaining opponents. “I’m worried about where our team can be at the end of the season. That’s much more important to me.”

Quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick said he sees the last three games as a chance to send a message to the rest of the AFC East for next year.

“Obviously we’re at the bottom right now, but in order to get out of that basement you’ve got to beat the teams in your division,” Fitzpatrick said. “We’ll see, starting with Miami, how we do. We think we’re a better team than we were at the beginning of the year and hopefully it’ll show up on Sunday.”

Buffalo has lost five straight divisional games, with their last win coming Nov. 29, 2009 at home against Miami. This season, the Bills dropped a 15-10 decision to the Dolphins on opening day; lost to the Patriots, 38-30, two weeks later and were pummeled by the Jets, 38-14, the following week.

But the Bills believe they are a completely different team since their earlier meetings.

“I wouldn’t say there’s too much we’re doing any different schematically,” running back Fred Jackson said. “I just think we’re doing things a lot better. We’re protecting Fitz and giving him time to throw the ball downfield. (This is) going to be a test for us, and can show how we’ve progressed through the season and where we rank against these guys.”

From a defensive standpoint, linebacker Paul Posluszny agreed.

“We’re much more comfortable now,” Posluszny said. “Defensively, we’re just so much further along than we were (earlier in the season) when it comes to understanding our defense, communicating to each other (and) understanding our assignments.”

Whitner said the Bills have become noticeably better at formation recognition, creating turnovers and communicating lately, but their biggest improvement is in playing situational football.

“We have situations that we actually work on as far a third downs, as far as first-and-short and first-and-long and second-and-long, (that) we’ve gotten better (at),” Whitner said. “We’re taking heed to the way that Coach Gailey wants us to practice throughout the week; how he wants us to get the entire installation in as early as possible. It’s been working for us, and that’s what we have to come out and show.”

In the meantime, the Bills will accept having the opportunity to win some games and provide a blow to rivals’ playoff hopes.

“I guess this isn’t the role you want to be in, but now we’re kind of in the role of the spoiler and that may add some motivation,” Fitzpatrick said. “But just playing a division opponent is motivation enough to go out there.”

“We’re out of the playoffs and they’re in a position to still make it, but we want to do the best job that we can,” Posluszny said. “Even though we’re not in the playoff hunt (and) our record isn’t great, the matter of the fact is we still have three games left and we want to finish off the season on a high note.”

While the remaining games may have some instant gratification, the Bills believe their outcomes can also carry significant weight for the future.

“Make no doubt about it, we want to spoil their playoff hopes,” he said. “If you go out and win two or three of the last games, against two (or) three good football teams, people look at you as an exciting football team for next year and you get some of those Sunday (and) Monday night games. You play in the National Football League to play in prime time. That’s what we want to set ourselves up for next year.”

Over 300 students braved the snow and cold weather to participate in the sixth annual Buffalo Bills Play 60 Challenge Fitness Party with 18 Buffalo Bills players and BlueCross BlueShield of Western New York and American Heart Association volunteers yesterday at the Bills Fieldhouse in Orchard Park.

The large contingent of Bills players that participated in the event included Akin Ayodele, Jairus Byrd, Jon Corto, Dwan Edwards, Dominique Harris, Paul Hubbard, Donald Jones, Jammie Kirlew, Corey McIntyre, Arthur Moats, Paul Posluszny, Ko Quaye, Naaman Roosevelt, Garrison Sanborn, Bryan Scott, C.J. Spiller, Jonathan Stupar and George Wilson.

“I always look forward to today,” said Wilson. “It’s probably my favorite all-time Bills community event. We get a chance to interact with the kids on a level which we aren’t often able to do. We get to exercise with them, and the kids get to see that we are regular people. We also show the benefits of living healthy lives. There’s a lot of excitement in the air, and a lot of the other guys look forward to it as well.”

The players and Dr. James A. Williams, Buffalo Public Schools superintendent, each shared a message about eating healthy and the importance of exercise with the elementary-aged children. The kids then went through interactive fitness stations which were run by the Bills players, ate a healthy lunch and received complimentary gift bags with Buffalo Bills, BlueCross BlueShield of Western New York and American Heart Association items.

“A lot of times there’s so much negativity in the media, and this was a real positive event,” said Scott. “For the kids to come out here and meet us first hand, run around with us, sweat with us, and joke around with us, I think it means a lot to them.”

The number of Bills players supporting the event and the important message of “Play 60” was impressive.

“Our participation shows the students that we are normal people,” said Wilson. “We are just men who happen to play football. We don’t get caught up in the lifestyle that comes with playing football. We don’t forgot about the people that look up to us, and people that have helped us get to where we are today. I’m here trying to pay it forward to this next generation of students, and hopefully in time they’ll be able to pay it forward to the generation coming up after them.”

The kids were thrilled to participate and the players seemed to have as much fun as the kids.

“The Play 60 Challenge party was an awesome event!” said Posluszny. “We had a huge turnout from the players and there were lots of kids. They all had smiles on their faces when they were leaving, so that’s what counts. I got to run around with them and be a kid again, so it was a great day in my book. Hopefully the students were able to pick up some health tips from the players that they can incorporate into their daily lives.”

“I came out in my football socks and shorts and I was ready to go!” said Scott. “I ran the ‘W’ drill. You have to sprint, back pedal, sprint some more and then catch the ball. The first few kids were like, ‘What are we doing?’ Then as time went by, they were sprinting and they had huge smiles on their faces. Working out and laughing are very contagious, so I had a ball.”

Earlier in the season, over 2,500 students participated in the Play 60 Challenge kickoff assembly to make this year’s event the biggest celebration yet. The 300 kids were rewarded with the party because of their commitment to the program.

The Play 60 Challenge, a classroom-based exercise program that gets kids engaged in 60 minutes of daily exercise (30 minutes in school/30 at home), is an NFL model, and the Bills Play 60 Challenge program is one of the top community programs in the NFL. It is endorsed nationally by the American Heart Association and supported locally by BlueCross BlueShield of Western New York.

The Bills Play 60 Challenge was offered to all 3rd – 6th graders in the Buffalo Public Schools, the Niagara Falls Elementary Schools and Ellicott Elementary in Orchard Park, New York. This year, the Play 60 Challenge continued to be offered to all Western New York school districts that participate with BlueCross BlueShield.

In professional American football, the Pro Bowl is the all-star game of the National Football League (NFL). Since the merger with the rival American Football League (AFL) in 1970, it has been officially called the AFC–NFC Pro Bowl, matching the top players in the American Football Conference (AFC) against those in the National Football Conference (NFC).
